What the developers have said
In the Early Access notes, answering whether the game will be priced differently during and after Early Access: they "currently expect the price to stay the same throughout Early Access and at full release", full-release pricing is not finalized, and any change will be communicated before it takes effect.
So buying on day one should not cost more or less than waiting for 1.0, apart from any launch discount Steam may show.
The $8 you may have seen
$8 USD is the price of Unlimited AI access for the playtest, not the price of the game. It is optional, includes no game key, and is unnecessary at release because the full game has unlimited AI. Details on the playtest page.
